原主唱者Gloria Gaynor 生於纽泽西州的一个小镇，1974年以一首Never Can Say Goodbye开始她的歌唱生涯；1975年展露头角，迷人的风采加上音乐歌唱的实力，让她赢得第一Disco女王(Queen of Disco)的美称。  

不久这个光环很快被Donna Summer给抢走。  
1978年 春天Gloria Gaynor在欧洲登台时不小心跌落舞台，使得Gloria Gaynor 脊髓受损并卧病在床达9个月之久，加上复健期间母亲又去世，这许多的打击几乎让她崩溃。  
出院後，她写下这首 I Will Survive 证明自己战胜了怯懦，就如同歌词所写到的I`ve Got All My Life To Live ,I Will Survive一样。  

这首I Will Survive的推出，便将Gloria Gaynor 推上事业的巅峰。  

I Will Survive 在1979年蝉连3周冠军白金曲，成为当时70年代Disco必备歌曲，法国世界杯足球队开赛歌选用此曲；最重要的是，此曲也被滚石评为100首最伟大的作品之一。
